We discuss the formation of TiO 2 thin films via DC reactive magnetron sputtering. The oxygen concentration during sputtering proved to be a crucial parameter with respect to the final film structure and properties. The initial deposition provided amorphous films that crystallise upon annealing to anatase or rutile, depending on the initial sputtering conditions.
Removing pollutants from water by using the photocatalyst TiO 2 is a highly-promising method. A large amount of work has been done to increase the activity of TiO 2, whereas the main two findings are increasing the surface area and applying mixed phase modifications (anatase, brookite, and rutile). Here, we present a method to directly synthesize …
A general consensus places the bandgaps of rutile and anatase TiO 2 at 3.03 and 3.20 eV, respectively. In 1996, electrochemical …
Anatase/rutile mixed-phase TiO 2 nanoparticles were synthesized through a simple sol-gel route with further calcination using inexpensive titanium tetrachloride as a titanium source, which effectively reduces the production cost. The structural and optical properties of the prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron …
CiteSeerX - Document Details (Isaac Councill, Lee Giles, Pradeep Teregowda): ABSTRACT: We use density functional theory to examine structure− activity relationships of small vanadia clusters supported on anatase TiO2(001) and rutile TiO2(110) surfaces. A thermodynamic analysis indicates that the vanadia monomer cluster can be stabilized on the anatase TiO2(001) …
The activation energy needed for the rutile TiO 2 formation is greater than that of the anatase TiO 2 phase . As suggested by Shibata et al, the anatase TiO 2 phase is the product of a reaction between neutralized Ti atoms and O species, while the rutile TiO 2 phase is the product of a reaction between Ti + ions and O species .

Compared with the commercial Degussa P25 photocatalyst, which consists of the anatase and rutile phases in the same 3 : 1 ratio, the resulting TiO 2 exhibits an increased photoactivity in ...
The XRD patterns of the TiO 2 anatase powder prove the presence of phase pure material ( Fig. 1 a) and the rutile powder is characterized by a diffraction pattern specific to coarsened particles adopting the crystal modification of rutile ( Fig. 1 b) with a minor fraction of nanocrystalline anatase residues (see reflection at 2Θ = 25,5°).
In comparison to the metastable anatase, rutile is a thermodynamically stable TiO 2 polymorph [ 1 ]. Heat, pressure, or other suitable conditions can induce such transitions. Anatase is the main product of TiO 2 obtained through industrial sol-gel and aerosol synthesis [ 1, 14 ].
Nanocrystalline anatase and rutile TiO 2 thin films are deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates. The sputtering conditions are not only adjusted to accurately control the ETL crystallographic phase (as pure rutile or pure anatase) by tuning the chamber pressure during sputtering, but also tuned to achieve ETLs with comparable ...
Production and occurrence. Synthetic TiO 2 is mainly produced from the mineral ilmenite. Rutile, and anatase, naturally occurring TiO 2, occur widely also, e.g. rutile as a 'heavy mineral' in beach sand. Leucoxene, fine-grained anatase formed by natural alteration of ilmenite, is yet another ore. Star sapphires and rubies get their asterism from oriented inclusions of rutile needles.
The in-vitro genotoxicity of nanosized TiO(2) rutile and anatase was assessed in comparison with fine TiO(2) rutile in human bronchial epithelial BEAS 2B …
Herein, a facile one-step method is developed to in situ prepare crystalline anatase and rutile TiO 2 nanocrystals on Ti 3 C 2 T x by regulating the metastable Ti ions. The combination of TiO 2 nanocrystals and Ti 3 C 2 T x not only introduces extensive accessible sites for Na + storage, but also promotes the charge transport by efficiently relieving the collapse of …
Therefore, anatase TiO 2 hollow nanospheres show excellent high-rate performance. Through ex situ field emission scanning electron microscopy, it was revealed that the TiO 2 hollow nanosphere architecture can be maintained for hundreds of cycles, which is the main reason for its superior cyclability.

These peaks correspond to the (110), (101), and (210) planes of TiO 2 rutile structure (JCPDS # 21-1276), demonstrating the co-existence of both anatase and rutile phase in the sample . It could be observed that the peak intensity of the rutile phase is gradually enhanced in the range of 600 – 800 ºC, implying a better phase transformation ...

TiO 2 -anatase displays substantial activity and stability in gas-phase HBr oxidation. • Anatase and rutile exhibit similar kinetics, yet rutile is more active. • Self-doping with Br creates defect level enabling O 2 activation on both polymorphs. • O 2 activation is more facile on rutile due to shorter Ti cus distances. •
Anatase Titanium Dioxide is colorless, whereas Rutile Titanium Dioxide is usually found in dark red appearance. Rutile titanium dioxide is optically positive, whereas Anatase titanium dioxide is optically negative. This articles discusses the main differences between the two types of Titanium Dioxide and also describes their applications.

Consequently, TiO 2:4% Co shows rutile peaks with greater intensity compared to anatase ones. This phenomenon has a practical importance due to the fact that the TiO 2 polymorph rutile is the most interesting phase in the production of ceramic pigments, because of its great optical properties and ability to develop color in the presence of ...

Phase formation was achieved by hydrothermal treatment at elevated temperatures with the appropriate reactants. Anatase nanoparticles were …
The solution of the TiO 2 growth process consisted of four chemicals, rutile TiO 2 seeds, anatase TiO 2, sodium chloride, and phosphate salts as an additive. The rutile seeds and anatase TiO 2 precursor particle size were observed as ≤ 50 nm and ≤ 150 nm, respectively, as presented in Figure S2. The rutile seeds were used as nucleation for ...
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) forms the basis of devices for applications including sensing devices, solar cells, photo-electrochromics, and photocatalysis. Such devices exploit different phases of TiO2 within such devices and accordingly it would be beneficial to have an amorphous TiO2 precursor which allows crystalline phase spatial patterning, for the …
