MK Leslie has gone into administration and ceased to trade, after falling into a downward spiral that it could not recover from. A report from the firm's administrators, KPMG, dated 18 September, cited competitive pressures leading to losses, which in turn lead to cash-flow issues at the Iverness-based haulier and "significant HMRC arrears".
Leslie, who is also Chairman of the Shetland Fishermen's Association, was awarded the MBE in the New Year Honours list for services to the fishing industry. Leslie joined the NAFC Marine Centre UHI in 2002 after a 34 year career at sea as a commercial fisherman. For the last 19 of those years he skippered the whitefish fishing boat Harmony (LK 63).

MK Leslie employed 30 people in Shetland and 29 in Inverness, where they had opened an office in 1996. Fifty people have now been made redundant while nine people are assisting with existing contracts and site maintenance, including five in Shetland.
